Mission and goals

Choose section:

At the centre of foundation interest are modernist artists active between 1900 and 1970, in particular artists from the circle of the Ecole de Paris: Elie Nadelman, Mela Muter, Leopold Gottlieb, Józef Hecht, Henryk Hayden, Louis Marcoussis, Henryk Berlewi, Jankiel Adler, Hel Enri. Many of them were born and educated in Warsaw's intellectual environment. They were outstanding figures whose works received critical acclaim in Paris while being often overlooked in their homeland for historical and political reasons.

The Foundation aims to restore their rightful place in Polish art history, as well as to popularise their achievements. It wishes to spread the idea of not being indifferent to the past. After all, due to the multiculturalism of these artists, their art has reached an outstanding international level. In the coming years, the Art & Modern Foundation plans to prepare approximately 1–2 exhibitions per year and 2 publications, as well as several accompanying educational events, such as lectures by experts, meetings with artists, debates, and promotions of catalogues, guided tours and art workshops for seniors and children. All activities will be prepared per the foundation's statutory objectives, which are: educational and cultural activities in disseminating 20th-century Polish art and culture, as well as increasing access to cultural goods and national heritage.
